The mechanism at work in the great reformers (Moses, Muhammad, Luther, Gandhi, Mandela) consists of four variables: source of authority (using the system's own language), threshold calculation (correctly gauging the change the system can bear), offering an alternative, and timing.
This framework also explains failures: what Jan Hus lacked was a tool: the printing press did not yet exist. Giordano Bruno miscalculated the threshold. Failure is not a wrong idea; it is a missing variable.
The same four variables operate in exactly the same structure in a building manager: the scale changes, the mechanism does not.
