Lateral Shift

Ch. 48.18
A transition in which the theogenic drive remains active but its mold-object changes.
Lateral shift is the most common imitation of theolysis: the person believes they have stepped out of a mold, but has in fact merely transferred their theogenic drive into another mold (a political ideology, a "spiritual but not religious" system). Synaisthesis has not occurred; only the object has changed.

This concept serves as a critical warning that the claim "I am now a free thinker" is not always true.
